2nd Market

Old market has always been the favorite of backpack travellers, especially because of the food. In addition, the atmosphere is of a charm that you will never find in a supermarket. Taichung Second Public Market was built in 1917. It used to be famous for its delicate and pricy goods, making Japanese love to go there. It was burnt to the ground in an accident and was rebuilt in 1936. After a century, it is now a 7000-square-meter market with more than fifty shops and three hundred stands. The special characteristic of the market is that it is a hexagonal design. Although the separation is not clear now, the market was divided into six categories in the past. It is now famous for its food from the morning to the night. Don’t miss the famous buns, noodles, minced pork rice, and black tea. If you have time, you can visit the religious center of the market, Wude Temple. The temple honors the martial god “Guan Yu” and the sea goddess “Mazu”. The market is truly the witness of the history of Taichung.
